We will launch the Ecosystem, and combine the development of Exemplar Farms in Ogun State, Nigeria. These farms will include one smaller Model Farm, and one larger Beacon Farm. By the time the project is complete by 2024, we will have fully deployed all elements of the Ecosystem.
We believe these projects will demonstrate the key capabilities the Ecosystem can play in food security both locally and internationally
Africa’s farmers and agribusinesses could create a trillion-dollar food market by 2030 if they can expand their access to more capital and better technology
IntraAfrica trade stood at 16.6% in 2017 relative to Europe (68%) and Asia (59%). The establishment of AfCFTA would help to support Africa’s agri-business, create new regional markets for farmers, strengthen the agro-value chains and significantly reduce agricultural imports from outside the continent
Nigeria has over 38 Million small holding farmers. They are characterised by poor yield and lack of access to capital to make the necessary improvements to reach peak performance. Yet Crop farmers still managed to produce $100Bn of output in 2020. Relatively small gains in productivity will result in significant volumes of more crops.
Innovate Agriculture Technologies will be launching the Ecosystem as part of the Nigeria Model Farms project. The project will involve developing 2 exemplar farms.
Exemplar farms are a core component of the Ecosystem. We will locally adapt and implement Crop Production models which will act as a beacon for good practice
Our CPMs provide best practice standards which take into account local conditions. This includes preparation of soil, sourcing the right inputs, on going management through to Harvesting and Weeding
AgriDex is the B2B component of the Ecosystem. It will provide the inputs for CPMs and support off-taker Aggregation. Integration with the Community model allows new business relationships to be formed and optimum business processes implemented.
The project will focus on 3 main crops. Soya, Maize and Cassava. We will also be planting a range of Vegetables.
As part of the CPMs, we promote rotation of complementary crops and intercropping for maximum yield.
The adoption of Technology is a critical element of the Crop models. By integrating and implementing the technologies, we can start to see the actual value of technology and provide working examples of Precision Agriculture on both small and large Farms.
The map of Nigeria shows the ecological zones organised by States. The blue represents well-drained soil with a good climate.
In Phase 1, we will be implementing 2 Exemplar Farms in Ogun State. These farms will be:-
Once these farms are fully functioning, we will expect this to be rolled out to five other states. This will form Phase 2 of the project. These Oyo, Ondo, Osun, Edo and Kwara. All have good access to Lagos, ideal soil and climate conditions and can be considered safe.
The more support we can get from various bodies, the quicker we can roll out to other states providing the benefits to a much greater population of Small Holding Farmers.
